Castelbuono is a small town in the province of Palermo, Sicily. Its name derives from the castle around which the city grew up in the 14th century over the ruins of the ancient Byzantine town of Ypsigro. Nowadays Castelbuono is known well beyond Sicily for the Ypsigrock music festival , a benchmark for indie-rock culture lovers.
The village is surrounded by the Massiccio del Carbonara (1,979 m // 6,493 ft), the highest peak of the Parco delle Madonie, a natural park in the northern part of Sicily.
